The Outcast Dead
Deep in the depths of London’s filthy, squalid past is a patch of land filled with medieval secrets…
Welcome to Crossbones Graveyard: last resting place of The Winchester Geese. Miranda Kane tells the story of these women who were prostituted by the church and buried in this scrap of unhallowed ground, as well as many others like them throughout history.
Using a mixture of spoken word and stand-up comedy, this is a funny, fascinating tour of some of the pasts the most infamous sex-workers.
These are the stories the history books would prefer to be kept on the top shelf!
Crossbones is a genuine graveyard in Southwark, London, and is thought to contain over 150,000 bodies. It was discovered in 1996 during a tube line extension, and has since been excavated by The British Museum. It is thought to date back to 1107 when it was known as a ‘Single Women’s Graveyard’.
